Amsler Grid Eye Test

"A test for the early detection of retinal diseases.

This is how you can perform this test:

  1. Cover one eye with your hand and fixate on the point in the middle with the open eye (distance to the screen 30 to 40 cm).
  2. Then test the other eye, also 'one-eyed'.

If you use reading glasses, you must wear them for the test!

If any of the following effects occur:

  • You do not see the point in the middle
  • Gray veil or holes
  • Dark or blurred spots
  • Boxes of different sizes
  • Distorted or bent lines

you should not hesitate to see your eye doctor. This also applies if you notice changes when looking at tile joints or window crosses.

Attention: The self-test with the Amsler grid complements regular eye examinations, but does not replace them!
